This year’s Fastest Growing Firms come from various economic sectors, like Boelter Brands LLC, a distributor of licensed, branded sports-related drinkware and other products; contractor Capital Heating & Cooling; construction management firm Greenfire Management Services LLC; and diagnostic testing company Neurotech LLC.

Since 1993 the City of Milwaukee Historic Preservation Commission, the Common Council and the Mayor have issued the Cream of the Cream City awards “to recognize projects large and small which have preserved the rich history of Milwaukee found in its varied architecture from the 19th and 20th centuries. The recipients of these awards have added value to their neighborhoods and Milwaukee by preserving the unique design and character of historically designated properties,” according to its mission statement.

When I say "lion house," I bet you think of the lovely 1851 Edward Diederich House on the lower East Side. I'm thinking, however, of the lion house, also known as George Koch house, 3209 W. Highland Ave., which shares a number of features with its elder brother.

An indoor sports complex, Vliet Street grocery store and public market and a signature public plaza and amphitheater in the Wisconsin Avenue area are among recommendations in a report released Monday for Milwaukee’s near west side.

The former Gallun Tannery site hasn’t looked this active in years. Construction crews are quickly building the first two buildings in the four-building River House apartment complex. The project is being developed by Atlantic Realty Partners on a stretch of N. Water St. just east of the Holton Street Viaduct. General contracting on the project is being led by Greenfire Management Services. The project is expected to be completed in 2017.

Crews continue their work Feb. 15 at the River House Apartments project in Milwaukee. Milwaukee-based Greenfire Management Services is the construction manager on the project, which will see two 248-unit apartment buildings of roughly 190,000 square feet each. Phase 1 of the project is expected to continue through the summer of 2017.
